Golf Tips: How To Take Care Of Your Golf Clubs

Golf Tips: How to take care of your golf clubs

If you have invested in a great set of golf clubs, it is in your best interest to keep them in stellar condition. Not only will they last a very long time, but a clean set of clubs can even help you control the ball better on the course. Here are a few suggestions on how to care for your clubs so that you get the most out of them.

1) Keep your woods and putter covered

There is a reason why you see other golfers with what looks like a fancy sock covering the heads of their woods, even if they are metal. Those clubs are the ones likely to get nicked up, which can affect the flight of the ball. If you are using wood clubs, you should especially keep them covered if it is raining. Dry the head of the club before putting the cover over it. Putters are equally vulnerable to damage, which can affect the trajectory of your putts. Play it safe by keeping them covered when they are not in use.

2) Clean your grooves

Your irons are durable, but grass and dirt has a way of clogging the grooves on the clubface. The short-term solution is to hang a small hand towel off the side of your bag and use it to wipe the club clean after you use it. When the round is over, take a bucket of lukewarm water and let the heads of the clubs soak for a few minutes. Then use a toothbrush or a vegetable brush to scrubs the grooves clean. Make sure to dry the clubs after you wash them.

3) Care for your shafts

Give the shafts of your clubs a good wipe down after a round. This will remove any dirt and moisture from the shafts and prevent premature rusting. Some golfers will give their shafts a coat of wax about once a month for added protection and to keep their clubs shiny on the course.

4) Inspect the grips

Take a close look at the grips on your clubs. Are the dimples fading a bit? Does the grip feel a bit loose? It may be time to take them to a pro and have the clubs regripped. If your grips are still good, just dip your brush in to water and give the grips a gentle scrub. Good grips allow you to take a confident swing.

5) Store the clubs in a warm, dry place

Your clubs may take up a lot of space, but if you leave them in the garage, the cold temperature and any moisture can wreak havoc on them. An indoor closet might be a better storage option.

Hope these tips will give you some hints on how to best take care of your precious clubs.
