Golf Tips 101 – The Value of Clean Clubs

If you have ever golfed and used an iron you know that after each shot the grooves get filled in with grass or dirt. After a long period of usage that dirt can become harder and harder to clean out. If you never clean these grooves out then you are getting no value from them.
What kind of value do the grooves have? Well, the grooves are very important aspect to your golf game. Their purpose is to take in the grass blades and dirt so that you can try to get clean contact on the ball. If you are able to get clean contact on the ball then you will also get some spin. This spin is what helps the ball stay up in the air and also what helps it hold the green. If you ever watch golf on tv you will notice that the caddy always has a towel and makes sure to wipe the club off each time.
So how do we clean them? I know that most of you golfers will not have the luxery of a caddy to wipe and clean your clubs for you. There are a couple of ways to keep your irons clean. The first way is to have a towel on your bag. You can use this towel to wipe off the face of the iron. An added tip would be to wet half the towel. This will make it easier to wipe and clean the iron. A second way is to get a club brush. Most club brushes are safe to use on your irons. They have a bristle end and some will have a sharp point as the other end. This point can glide along the grooves and get rid of anything that the bristles can’t dispose of. A third way to help clean your clubs if a towel or brush is not available is to use a golf tee. The end of the tee will be small and sharp enough to fit in the grooves. One brisk swipe and you are ready to go.
All three of these ways will help you keep your club face clean and help you make good clean contact on those balls. Hopefully, this will lead to better scoring and more fun out on the golf course.
