The ball cannot be used for playing if it is cut, cracked or not in shape. If the player thinks that the ball is unfit to play, then he may lift the ball. However, he needs to declare his intention to the opponent. Clubs used in the game needs to confront with the rules. The manufacturer needs to submit the sample of club to the USGA to confirm whether it is manufactured according to the rules. The playing characteristics of the club must not be purposefully changed.

The player has some responsibilities according to the rules of golf. The player is responsible for knowing the rules. If he breaches any rule, then he can incur a penalty. The player needs to start the game at the prescribed time. In stroke play, he should remain throughout the round in the group. The player may be assisted by a caddie, who can help him for carrying or handling the clubs during play. However, a player is allowed to have only one caddie at a time.

The golf rules admit the player to practice on any day of a match play competition on the course. However, on stroke play, the competitor must not practice on the competition course. These are the official rules of golf and you can buy the current rules booklet published by USGA in order to know the rules thoroughly.
