Golf Tip Ball Placement

Perfecting Your Golf Stance

Hitting a golf ball perfectly requires incredible precision, so it is crucial to have a great golf stance.  There are a few components to this stance including leg positions, upper body position, and ball placement.  Here area few tips to improve your stance and hopefully lower your score in the process.

First, your feet should be about shoulder width apart.  They should be parallel and square to the ball.  Imagine drawing a line through your feet: it should point in the direction you wish to hit the ball.  There should be a slight bend in your knees, but nothing uncomfortable.  This should give you good stability, especially in more challenging landscapes.  Having a good pair of golf shoes will add to the stability earned by improving your golf stance.  Keep in mind that these are all guidelines and that you may have to adjust these tips slightly.  Some people simply have broader shoulders or less flexible knees than others, so this must be taken into account.

You should bend slightly at the waist so your upper body is leaning forward a little.  Your arms should fall straight down to the ground, not stretched way out in front of your body.  This gives your swing more consistency as you will not feel like you have to reach out to hit the ball.

Ball placement involves a bit of personal preference.  Generally, the ball should be placed just inside your lead foot when using longer clubs and towards the center of your stance when using short irons.  There is a good amount of trial and error involved in deciding what is best for you.  Ultimately, go with what produces the best results and feels most comfortable for you while following this general guideline.

Make sure you do not place the ball too far from your body.  Remember, your arms should hang straight down to hold your club; use this as a way of determining proper distance.  Also, the ball should not be too close to your body.  If this is the case, your swing will not be smooth or comfortable but jammed.

Your golf stance plays a major role in your ability to hit the ball accurately.  Give yourself the chance to really start hitting the ball better by improving your stance.  Keep these tips in mind as you figure out what is most comfortable and delivers the best results.
